John 6: 44-59

(John 6: 44-59)

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  I am that bread of life.  Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.  This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.  The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.  This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.  These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

After the incident of feeding about 5,000 people with five barley loaves and two fish, people tried to make Jesus their king. But Jesus avoided the crowd. Jesus referred to himself as the bread of God, the bread of life, and said that only faith is the way to eternal life, but people did not understand what the meaning of the word was.

After hearing Jesus' words, the Jews began to mumble, saying they knew whose son Jesus was and where he grew up. That makes sense. Against the gossiping Jewish crowd, the Lord commanded not to gossip. He emphasizes that no one can come to me unless God is leading it. Indeed, the Jews prove that if God does not allow us to hear the voice of the Lord no matter how close we are, we cannot believe even when we see it with our own eyes. Only those who realize that they are sinners who have left God and cry to repent and return to God are led by God.

Despite the great mystery that Jesus would save people by forsaking Himself on the cross, the Jews did not understand and quarreled. Manna, which fell in the wilderness a long time ago, allowed people at that time to live day by day, but not forever. This is because the manna that fell in the wilderness was not the bread of life. But the Lord promised that those who eat and drink the flesh and blood that Jesus Himself shed will live forever, and the promise has already been fulfilled.

Jesus dwells in those who repent, those who died and reborn as spirit bodies, and that the saints dwell in Jesus means that they live a life in unity with Christ who died on the cross through faith. The purpose of Jesus' coming to this earth was to carry out the will of our Heavenly Father to save all human beings who are forced to live in the pit of destruction forever. Jesus constantly spoke the truth about himself, but people did not understand it.
