John 5: 30-44

(John 5: 30-44)

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.  If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.  There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.  Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.  He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.  And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.  And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.  I receive not honour from men.  But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.  I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.  How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

Jesus healed a 38-year-old sick man, and the Jews were trying to persecute and kill him more because they did it on the Sabbath. Jesus testified in three main ways that He is the Son and Savior of God. First, God Himself testified that He is the Son of God through His own life and works.

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.. Jesus reveals who is witnessing separately for Jesus. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

The second evidence was the testimony through John the Baptist. John the Baptist was the people's favorite prophet and spiritual leader. A great multitude of people followed John the Baptist, and even the Pharisees and religious leaders could not do it. John the Baptist first testified to Jesus as the Son and Savior of God.

In John 1:29-30 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. Thirdly, the entire Old Testament Scriptures testify against Jesus. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. .And For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. .

The Bible mentioned by Jesus refers to the Old Testament, because it is still before the New Testament was written. The Bible said that people find the way to eternal life through the Bible. They also said they believe in Moses, but Moses is a prophet representing the Old Testament law. The law serves to reveal what man's sin is and that the result of that sin is death. So the law condemns and accuses guilty humans.

The law and the Bible testify that this problem of sin and judgment must be solved, and the way is to pay the wages of sin only through the death of the cross, and that through death and resurrection with Jesus, eternal life and salvation will be obtained. That is why Jesus began to announce and proclaim that He is the Son of God and God's plan to save the world. However, the people and the Jews did not understand and did not accept Jesus' words and methods of salvation. That is why Jesus regretted and lamented the Jews who did not accept the news of salvation.

God Himself testified that Jesus was the Savior, and despite the testimony of the Bible and the testimony of Jesus' own life, people at that time did not accept Jesus because humans do not know why they came to live on this earth. Had they known that they had sinned in the kingdom of God and came to this earth, they would have wanted to go back. This is because they are immersed in the temporal thought that all you need to do is to enjoy an affluent life in this land.
