John 4:1-30

(John 4:1-30)

When therefore the LORD knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,  (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)  He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.  And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.  The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.  The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:  For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.  And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?  The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

God allowed Solomon to build the temple. So Solomon builds the temple. The sanctuary is made movable, but the temple is a non-movable building. God gave the sanctuary to know that the Israelites were sinners who were not with God. The priests were sacrificed, and the people were forgiven of their sins from God. Thus, as the beast dies, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth and died on the cross. Thus, all repentant humans are redeemed and become God's people. As promised, Jesus came into this world.

In the Old Testament, Christ was foretold to come to this world. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14) Many prophets foretold the coming of Jesus Christ to this world, and they really came. The sacrifice signifies the death of Christ. Jesus Christ, whom God promised to the Israelites, came. According to Matthew, his son was named Immanuel, which means "God is with us." The temple is the place where God will dwell among the Israelites. The word "God dwells in Israel" is synonymous with Immanuel. Immanuel God means God of the Temple. Jesus Christ is the temple.

When Jesus went up to the temple, there were many people buying and selling. Jesus drove them away and said, "Don't make my father's house dirty." The Jews ask: What signs will you show us to do this? Jesus said, Destroy the temple and raise it in three days.

The Bible says, "the temple of his body." The disciples did not know the meaning. This means, "The temple building is no longer needed, so I will give you the true temple." The disciples realized it only after Jesus was resurrected. It is the temple that God is with. Since the true temple (Jesus) has come, the building temple in the name of God must be gone. When Jesus' disciples walked with Jesus looking at the temple, they talked about the beautiful temple, and Jesus said, "That temple will fall without a stone left.

The shocked disciples asked Jesus. When will that happen? And what will happen at the end of the world? Luke said, "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by the army, realize that the destruction of Jerusalem is near." Jesus rebuked his disciples, "Do you not see all this?" "Do you not know the relationship between the temple in this building and Jesus Christ, the temple of Immanuel?" The temple as a building is a model, and Jesus Christ is the true temple. So this building, the temple, needs no more, and the model must disappear. In the same context, Jesus told the Jews to break down the temple.

Today, most church people are unaware of the words, "Do you not see all this?" And "Destroy this temple." Although the Bible describes the resurrection of Jesus, the temple building is actually a model of the true temple and is no longer needed. Even today, the Israelites could know? However, if the Israelites had read the Law correctly, it could have known the meaning of what Jesus said. This is when Solomon built the temple and prayed to God. "

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?  Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: (1 Kings 8: 27-28)

Solomon built the temple of God, but Solomon confessed that the temple building simply had the name of God. Deacon Stephen talked about the temple. "God is not in a temple building built by human hands, it is just a place of name." The apostle Paul saw a temple in the place of "Aden" with the phrase "to an unknown god" and said when he preached to the Greeks. The apostle Paul used the expression "the God who made heaven and earth" because the Greeks may not know "Jehovah God."

"There is no God in a building built by hand." This expression was also used in evangelism to the Gentiles, and if the Jews had studied the Scriptures properly and meditated on the Law, it would have been clear that the building temple was a typology and that the true temple would come. That is why Jesus says, "Do you not see all this?" Jesus reproves his disciples and Jews also reprove them.

Jesus says, "You (the disciple) will be the temple of God." When Jesus went into evangelism and entered Samaria, he said to the Samaritan woman who brought water from Jacob's well, "Please give me some water," and the Samaritan woman asked Jesus.

Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. (John 4: 9) Jesus answered.

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (John 4:10) A Samaritan woman asked Jesus, "We Samaritans should worship on this mountain, and the Jews must worship on Jerusalem. What is right?"

Jesus said, "It is time for you to worship God, not on this mountain, nor on Jerusalem." In general, church people think that they go to the temple to worship.

People think that they should go to the temple to worship and praise God. If we think about what Jesus is saying, there is no God on this mountain and there is no God in Jerusalem. "There is God in you, and the time is coming for you to worship God." Without God in you you cannot worship. To worship God, we must go to where God is. You cannot worship where there is no God. That is why Jesus said so. In other words, you are a temple. The word "you" is born again after receiving life from God.

Jesus was crucified, died, and resurrected to the right hand of God. So when Jesus sends the Holy Spirit, the saints in Christ can become temples and worship God. The Saints gather to worship, worshiping in spirit (the Holy Spirit) and in truth (the truth: Scripture).
The word "spirit and truth" does not mean "to refine the heart," but it is worship when the Holy Spirit works and the Word of God is revealed, and the glory of God is revealed by the word. If God makes the word understand by the teachings of the Holy Spirit, we give glory to God.
