John 16: 8-11
(John 16: 8-11)
『Nevertheless I tell you the
truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the
Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and
of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because
I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of
this world is judged. 』
Jesus said
that he would send the Holy Spirit after he went to God. We must know why Jesus
sends the Holy Spirit to the Saints. God descended into the world in human form
and died to redeem those who repented on the cross. And Jesus resurrected in
three days. A marvelous work has occurred in which God gives eternal life to all
who are in Jesus Christ. It may have been a big issue at the time, but after
many years, if no one talks about it, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus
will disappear into history.
Then, the
crucifixion of Jesus is in vain. If we want the crucifixion not to be a vain
death, but apply to all who repent, and that all will be saved through it, we
must preach the gospel to others.
1 Corinthians
1:21 tells us to use the foolish way of evangelism. The Bible tells us to
evangelize clear facts about why we should be united with Christ on the cross
as a foolish way of evangelism. Before Jesus died on the cross, he told his
disciples: "I must die on the cross and be resurrected in three days
before I go to God." But the disciples who hear these words are worried.
Jesus said: "I will send the Comforter Spirit, so don't worry." The
disciples' worries that didn't know what that meant were still.
Jesus said:
"It is good for you that I go away." It means that the Holy Spirit
comes much better than Jesus is in the physical state of this world. If the
disciples are scattered, the Holy Spirit can be with all the disciples, but
Jesus cannot do so because of the flesh. The reason Jesus chose His disciples
was to bear fruit. Jesus said: "If you are well attached to the vine, you
will bear much fruit." To “bear fruit” means that many people repent because of Jesus Christ. To bear
fruit means to repent and return. The disciples preached and testified of the
death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, so that many will repent and receive
life.
Although
Jesus chose disciples, the disciples had many physical restrictions. Jesus had
many restrictions because of his flesh. When the disciples talk about the
kingdom of God, they may not remember, fear, or be courageous because of their
weak flesh. The Comforter Spirit helps the disciples because it was not easy
for the disciples to do by themselves. When the Holy Spirit comes, the Holy
Spirit witnesses Jesus with the disciples. The Holy Spirit reminds the
disciples of all of Jesus. So Jesus asked: "Wait in Jerusalem until the
Spirit comes." When the Holy Spirit comes, Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus
Christ. Jesus said: The Holy Spirit will reprove sin, righteousness, and
judgment. "Reprove" does not mean "to scold", but to
correct what is wrong.
The Holy
Spirit tells us exactly about sin, righteousness, and judgment. Jesus said:
"About sin" means that they (sinners) do not believe in me (Jesus).
Before Jesus died on the cross, the Jews' sin was to break the law (the law of
God's wrath). However, after Jesus came to the world and died on the cross,
Jesus carried all the world sins of the repentant, and it is sin not to believe
this fact. Most church people do not know why the Holy Spirit is coming and
that the Holy Spirit is reproving.
There are
many parts of the Bible that say, "Repent." "Repent" means
to turn the way I went because of the wrong way. Although we have done wrong in
the world, after we realize it, we must repent and do right. Man's confession
and forgiveness of sins were solved at the moment of repentance to God, so God
tells sinners not to sin again but to go right. Repentance is to go from the
wrong way to the right way. However, people continue to sin and seek to be
forgiven only by God. To go right is to be crucified with Jesus. We must think
whether we have really turned to the right path. This is repentance. . Many
church people misuse the term repentance.
"On
righteousness" means that Jesus comes to God. In the Old Testament,
righteousness does not break any law (the law of the wrath of God). But the
Holy Spirit says that it does not make right. Jesus Christ died on the cross
and went to the throne of God with all the sins of the world. In the Old
Testament, the Israelites could not keep all the law, so they had to sacrifice to
obtain God's righteousness. And the high priest had to go to the "Holy of
Holies" with the blood that killed the animals, when God forgave the sins
of the Israelites. Jesus shed the blood of the cross and took all the sins of
the repentant and went to the throne of God as high priest.
Since Jesus
plays the final role as high priest, those who are in Jesus Christ become God's
righteousness. After Jesus Christ served as high priest, he sat at the right
hand of the throne of God. And the saints in Jesus Christ sit with him.
Although not physically with Jesus Christ, being in Jesus Christ is righteous.
"For judgment" means the judgment of the world king (Satan). It is
Satan who opposes God, "I can be like God." God expelled Satan and
his followers from the kingdom of God. That is the judgment. Already judged by
God. But at the end of time, God will put Satan on fire that will never burn.
Those who are not in Jesus Christ are Satan's followers. If they do not repent,
they will have final judgment with Satan.
