John 17:9-19

(John 17:9-19)

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.  And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.  And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.  And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.  I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

Jesus' last prayer was a farewell prayer in the upper room, and it was a prayer before the crucifixion of the Lord. It is a prayer for oneself who will be resurrected and ascended after suffering on the cross, disciples who will be left alone after that, and all believers now and in the future. This is a prayer especially for the disciples you loved. Jesus knew that he would be buried after the crucifixion, resurrected on the third day, and ascended to heaven. And Jesus knew well that the disciples who were to be left in this world would not even consider their lives as precious for the sake of the Gospel, but would go toward the whole world and nation. So, Jesus did not pray from the standpoint of the disciples to be left, but from God's point of view. Jesus prays for His disciples to become one with God, just as He and God are one. This prayer is originally one. So, Jesus prayed to God to become one as it was originally one. And it means that the disciples will go out into the world and free those who are bound by Satan so that they can take the lead in becoming one with God.

The first prayer Jesus said for his disciples was his relationship with God. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are The name Jesus is Jehovah in the Old Testament. Through the name of Jesus, Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the saints become one. Those who can call on the name of Jesus must be his family. In order to become the family of Jesus, only those who have made the blood covenant become the family of Jesus. That is, those who died together with Jesus who died on the cross become a family.

Second prayer, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. The regenerated person dies in the physical body (old man: greed) and is reborn as a spirit body, but because he has a body received from his parents, it is inevitable to fight Satan. In the third prayer, he prayed to be sanctified by the truth, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. The truth is Jesus Christ. Only those who are united with Jesus who died on the cross are those who are sanctified by God.
